Great information. Thank you!

Lynn Lesniak Needle

As a former soloist in the Nikolais Dance Theatre, I remember Nik's wisdom when he taught company pedagogy workshops. He always referred to choreographers as "the champions of choice". This simple statement has served me well when I create. Choreographers are essentially curators of time, space, shape, motion, light, sound, costuming, bodies, order, placement and ideas. Each new work begins with an idea, or an intention or point of view. I recommend augmenting reading lists with visits to museums, galleries, architecture tours, movies, theatre, and site specific events. The more life experiences a choreographer has, the more informed their work will be.
