For a Graduate Level Choreography Course: Essays, Book Recommendations, and Guiding Questions
Today I would like to share some resources that I found to be useful during my two years earning my MFA. These are resources I created or discovered along the way. Professors - consider printing out the essays, adding books to a reading list, and using quotes and questions each week as springboards within a choreography course.
Essays on "The Choreographic Moment"
Over the past year, I have asked 5 artists to share their thoughts and experiences around the time and place when an idea forms and inspires. Read ideas here from Douglas Nielsen, Jo Kreiter, Keith Johnson, Stephan Koplowitz, and Jeanine Durning.

Book Recommendations
For graduate level experimentation, inspiration, reflection, and rigor, I loved these books and would like to recommend:
A Choreographic Mind - Susan Rethorst
The Place of Dance: A Somatic Guide to Dancing and Dance Making - Andrea Olsen
A Choreographer's Handbook - Jonathan Burrows
Hiking the Horizontal - Liz Lerman
Bringing together my blog writing and my graduate studies, over the past 2 years I pulled out quotes from various choreographers' artist profiles who have written for Life as a Modern Dancer. Some of the artists include Jennifer Monson, Rebecca Lazier, Tiffany Mills, and Peter DiMuro.
Read the various questions and quotes here. One example is in the image above, quoting Tiffany Mills.
