Organization Spotlight: C.A.A.C
By Camryn Eaglin
The Collegiate Association for Artists of Color is an organization with a focus on POC students of the arts in higher education. The organization's six key words include unity, innovation, security, community, celebration and advocacy. C.A.A.C’s main objective is for education to be inclusive for POC, uplift talent, and amplify students’ cultures and unique experiences. The organization is rooted in creation and support of their community. The C.A.A.C states, “created for us, by us.”
Due to Covid, all of C.A.A.C’s content is exclusively virtual. They offer Q&A sessions with industry professionals, master classes, creative talkbacks, poetry readings, restorative yoga, write nights, and pen pals with incarcerated artists. C.A.A.C has a weekly segment called “Artlight'' on their Youtube channel, that features POC artists by uncovering their creative process through conversation with their collaborators. C.A.A.C hosted the “Borderless Art Festival,” which included virtual interviews of POC artists with mixed abilities.
C.A.A.C’s next upcoming event is a Speed Meeting via Zoom this Friday, February 19, 2021 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m EST. This meeting connects members by sharing experiences and perspectives of POC artists. You can register for the event here.
Any artists interested in joining the organization can get connected with the C.A.A.C community and team members on their community discord.
