Completing the "Dance + Change 2017" Project

Today we wrap up the monthly project called Dance + Change 2017. Collaborating with my cousin and graphic designer Jenny Lederer, each month we created and offered a graphic design with a key question for phrase. Considering my 20 years as a professional dancer, 2017 has indeed been the most challenging on a philosophical and fundamental level (for me, and within this country under this national leadership).

I hope that these ideas continue to resonate. Please keep posting the images at your desk, in your classes, and in your dance spaces. Let's keep pausing, asking questions, and reflecting.

September's question is so simple yet so fundamental to our work. Twenty years into my own career as a professional dancer and teaching artist....I still keep asking this question and renewing my commitment to the form, to dancers of all ages and levels, to this community. Moving together, being in the room together, seeing each other, joy.Guiding, offering, building...

The First Six Months: Dance + Change Project

For 2017, I am collaborating with graphic designer Jenny Lederer to post one idea or question each month. This offering --- post-election --- aims to pause us all for a few minutes each month to think about our dance work and our role in society. Today I share with you the first 6 ideas for 2017. Please share, please pause, and please join me in considering the role of dance, the arts in general, and arts education in the United States at this given moment.

I hope that these graphics can be posted in your buildings and can be used with colleagues, in staff meetings, and in discussions with college students.
